Dissolving Designer Sweatshirts

The T-Shirt Issue's Melt Sweatshirt is a Fashionable Work of Art

The Melt Sweatshirt could very well be the world's first art sweatshirt. Berlin's The T-Shirt Issue deconstructed a sweatshirt into four different forms. While that may sound easy, it's actually quite technical. The Melt Sweatshirt was scanned by a 3D scanner and split into 360 polygons. The polygon-patterned sweatshirt was then cut with a laser cutter (reducing the total amount of polygons). The fabric was then sewn back together and propped up with cardboard to create a new form. This process was repeated three times.

The design of clothing has long been seen as an art form, but very few pieces of clothing are created solely as works of art. The T-Shirt Issue's Melt Sweatshirt could very well change that. The sweatshirt will be on display during New York Fashion Week 2014 at the Gallery R'Pure.
