These Meg Allen Butch project photos are truly an exploration of what it means to be a woman to different people. Photographer Meg Allen started taking pictures of her friends in San Francisco, and it soon turned into the Butch project.

The photographs feature woman who live outside the definition of what being feminine means. Meg who identifies as a butch woman started to explore female masculinity. The women featured in these photos are androgynous, beautiful women.

This is a celebration of the women who get looks when they use public bathrooms. These cultural rebels are redefining what a woman can and cannot wear. Meg Allen’s photo documentary project encourages women to be who they want to be, not who they're told they should be.
