The Mechanical Horse is an animated life-size sculpture built by Brooklyn-based metal sculptor Adrian Landon. The sculpture brings together Landon's childhood love for playing with Lego bricks and his knowledge of horses -- acquired from his father, who played polo and was an equine veterinarian.
This sculpture is a moving one, and gallops in slow motion at the press of a button. Work on the project began in 2013, following a series of more traditional, non-moving horse sculptures and one failed moving sculpture. The finished version features over 100 bearings, custom laser-cut sprockets, 9 meters of chain and 23 articulating joints.
