Noorann Matties 'Rituals' Captures the Dynamic Between Women & Mirrors

Photographer Noorann Matties' 'Rituals' is a photo series that aims to capture the intimacy of beauty rituals, as represented by the space between a woman and a mirror. The photos aim to highlight the space between woman and mirror as it represents women's "most private interactions with their insecurities and confidences." Matties' photographs were featured in the Fog March 2014 issue of inconnu magazine.

Matties says that the intimacy captured by her photos "occurs only when one is forced to examine their own body, the most basic thing that is theirs, and build upon it."

The common thread running through all the images is the presence of a mirror of some sort. However, each of the women display different poses, facial expressions, vantage points and environments. These differences highlight the possibility that beauty rituals are independent from the outside world and act as a response to how women publicly see themselves.
