Masaaki Yuasa is one of Japan’s most storied illustrators, which is a big deal considering it seems like much of the world’s premiere cartoonists come from there. In the same vein Adventure Time has become much more than a children’s show, evolving into a cult phenomenon the likes of which hasn’t been seen since Spongebob Squarepants. The two have joined forces as Masaaki will be guest directing an episode of the show.
Normally the case with guest directors is they’re brought in for more of an advisory role, but not this time. The Adventure Time staff isn’t giving Massaki any sort of oversight and are letting the masterful cartoonist free reign over the one self-contained episode. Expect to see colors and more whimsy than you can shake a stick at.
