Unseenbird Designs the Striking Sik Mul Sung Cafe
This Mars-themed cafe in downtown Seoul is an excellent example of how concepts of life on other plants inform earthly designs. South Korean studio Unseenbird created the interior of this business. Titled Sik Mul Sung, this is not an ordinary establishment. The Mars-themed cafe was conceptualized by agri-tech start-up N.Thing. Known for "running a vertical farm on the outskirts of Seoul," N. Thing's technology is also integrated into Sik Mul Sung. While this makes vertical farms accessible to everyday consumers, it also displays the technology's viability as a food resource. Vegetables are grown in a "glass-fronted cultivation room," built by Unseenbird, and then harvested, prepared, and served via a conveyor belt to customers of the cafe.
