Crowdsourced Martian Space Suits

This NASA Contest is Looking For Martian Space Suit Designs

NASA has yet again decided to tap into the power of the crowd in order to come up with ways to design a better and more durable space suit.

The world's leading space agency is asking contest entrants to create a test that is capable of simulating the level of fiber degradation that is associated with exposure to the lunar atmosphere. The results will have to detail all damage -- including cuts, tears and color changes -- to the materials, and will also have to spell out the size and volume of particles that will be able to infiltrate the garment.

Space suits go through a lot of abrasion and wear-and-tear over the course of a space mission, so with NASA's eyes trained on a mission to Mars, it has become necessary to come up with next-generation space suits. What better way to do it than to make use of the brain power available on our own planet?
