When it comes to the miniature marble architecture of Matthew Simmonds, it is hard not to be astounded. Although people may have seem similar creations on a larger scale, notably while on vacation in Italy or Greece, these carvings are just as impressive for different reasons. Full of details, his classical fine arts sculptures are inspired by his previous career.
Having worked on teams in the restoration of famous historical buildings including the Westminster Abbey and Ely Cathedral in England, he took his experience and applied it to his marble architecture carvings. He says, "To create a sculpture that catches the light and structure of a building and lets the eye wander, to feel that here my eye could live, here a part of me could stay, is a great achievement."
