If you ask ten different people to describe Manhattan, you'll get ten different answers; which is exactly the idea behind the 'Map Your Memories' art project.
Initiated by New York City native Rebecca Cooper, 'Map Your Memories' encourages anyone to create their own impressions of Manhattan island. Collaborators start off with a blank map of the populous island and fill it in with their own memories, opinions and ideas as to what Manhattan Island means to them. The collaborative project has been so successful that Cooper has expanded to Harvard University's campus and plans to expand 'Map Your Memories' to Paris and Berlin as well.
The project has brought forth artists from all ages and stripes and many art disciplines, from young children using markers to older New York residents using watercolors.
