Indian streets could be perpetually lit no matter what the weather conditions if the Mango Street Lamp ever goes from concept to reality. Hungarian designer Adam Mikloski designed the Mango lamp to draw power from both the sun and rain.
India is a country of climate contrasts. The country goes from being extremely hot and sticky to soaked in a matter of minutes. The Mango Street Lamp is designed to take advantage of these bizarre weather patterns with its built-in solar panels and rainwater catchers. There aren't many solar-powered street lamps in use today, but designers have been busy creating concepts that take street lights off of the grid. So far the Mango Street Lamp is the first that is designed exclusively for India. With India's population growing the way it is, it hopefully won't be its last.
