'Malmo Saluhall,' a food market designed by Swedish architecture studio Wingardh, had previously been wasting away and falling into dilapidation. The former freight depot hadn't been in use for many years, and all that was left of it was the brick exterior — even its roof was long gone. Rather than tearing down the previous building and starting fresh, Malmo Saluhall is made from the bricks that were still standing, with pre-rusted steel siding and a new roof to cap it off.
Wingardh opted for weathered and pre-rusted materials in order to make the overall aesthetic blend in with the bricks that it was adding to. The interior, however, is a different story, with 20 crisp, industrial-chic stalls and cafes at which different types of vendors can ply their wares.
