Lorena Turner's Made in China Series Takes on a CSI Theme

As compulsive consumers, it is not surprising that Western culture has inspired artists to continue to explore this way of life and all the interesting details surrounding it; this is exactly what the Made in China series does. Instead of focusing on behavior or even on the process of production and consumption, this series hones in on the connection between the individuals creating the products and the actual items that are being sold in stores.

Shot by New York and L.A.-based Lorena Turner, who considers herself as a "social scientist with a camera," the Made in China series takes on a CSI spin. It is essentially made up of a slew of items purchased from US department stores and bodegas that have been removed from their original packaging, dusted for prints and then photographed under black lighting.

The Made in China series "forces us to reconsider the relationship those who are leaving their fingerprints on each item may have with it."
