Two months ago, one of the most rare aged bottles of whiskey, the Macallan in Lalique Cire Perdue, was valued at Sotheby’s New York for an estimated $150,000. The rich 65-year-old brew has just been sold for a whopping $460,000, with its proceed going to ‘Charity: Water.’
The Macallan in Lalique Cire Perdue was able to fetch such en enormous record-breaking price for reasons other than its exotic blend of sherry-seasoned Spanish oak and single malt Scotch. The 1820s-inspired Lalique decanter is made of crystal, with the design of the Macallan Scottish estate inscribed through the artisan technique of "cire perdue" or "lost wax."
