The re-designed Lufthansa business class seats shift the focus from free booze and other special treats to actual physical comfort in order to entice travellers to purchase premium seats. With the economy as it is, the travel industry has been struggling, especially airlines, and one of the sure ways to maximize revenue is to increase these particular seat sales.

Known for there innovative initiatives, the Lufthansa airline commissioned PearsonLloyd, a London-based design studio, to create seats that promote optimal comfort. By concentrating on a V-shaped concept, the studio was able to create recliner-like Lufthansa business class seats that does just that. Pearson says, "This principle is not unique in aviation seating design. However, the way in which the layout we utilised within the aircraft and the specific functions of the seat are unique to this design and Lufthansa in this case."
