The Lotus Lamp Has an All-Natural Form and Function

The Lotus Lamp is an artful lamp designed by Hansong Kim. The lamp is designed to mimic the look and blooming of a lotus flower, opening up as it is turned on. When the Lotus Lamp is off, its 'petals' are fully closed. When it's turned on, the recycled paper fiber covering slowly starts to peel out, revealing the light inside.

The lamp was designed to peel open and shut, but it can also be used in its closed form if you're looking for a softer light. Kim designed the Lotus Lamp primarily as a desk lamp, but there are also other sketches that depict it as a ceiling fan. The ceiling fan design is interesting to say the least, and it isn't tough to imagine this design morphing into something else, such as a speaker.
