'The Lost Lakes' Spreads an Environmental Message in Beijing

These reflective large scale art installations represent China's 240 lost lakes that disappeared in the past 40 years due to climate change.

Placed strategically around the city of Beijing, 'The Lost Lakes' project was brought in by a team at Grey Group China. China's development in industrialization and urbanization led to wide-scale pollution, severe droughts and water shortages. The environmental damage is to the extent that most Beijing natives have never seen a lake before. The pool-like pieces are designed to reflect the beauty of the city and to slow down city people, so they can take a moment to reflect literally and figuratively. Each mirror is unique, durable and easy to restore. The project required 15 craftsmen over six weeks to complete.
