This Dinosaur-Inspired Living Toy Uses Algae to Glow All Night

This glow in the dark dino-mite living toy from Yonder Biology is perfect for budding biologists and paleontologists. The soon-to-be released Dino Pet is bioluminescent. It's made out of polyethylene plastic and contains dinoflagellate algae. For it to light up at night, this non-toxic dinosaur needs to be in sunlight during the day for 10 to 12 hours. It also needs to be 'fed' every one to three months. When night falls, all the child has to do is shake and go!

The living toy is also intended to have a very educational purpose. The California-based company says, "To understand and to work with nature is paramount to living more sustainably. Harnessing biology to create energy, medicines and entertainment is the future."
