This is thanks to the use of a copper meshing that lines the roof of the establishment and prevents signals from travelling in and out, creating a dead zone. The idea is to establish a dead zone, so that patrons visiting the establishment are more encouraged to have face-to-face conversations, as oppose to spending time on their phones.
Steve Tyler, the owner of the pub, says that he was inspired to create the special roof when he saw how often visitors were on their phones rather than enjoying themselves. The copper blocks both cellular provider signals as well as Wi-Fi to really push guests to live in the moment.
