Social-Powered Vending Machines

The Pepsi 'Like Machine' Dispenses Sodas for Likes

Instead of taking cash, the Pepsi 'Like Machine' accepts Facebook likes as payment. People who liked the Pepsi page received a free soda from the machine.

The machine works by interfacing with your smartphone to provide you with Pepsi. After liking the Facebook page and choosing a type of Pepsi on your phone, the machine instantly dispenses a soda. Those without phones could use a large touchscreen to log in to Facebook and like the page.

Developed by ad agency TBWA, the campaign was built to replace the act of giving out free samples. Instead of indiscriminately providing free pop, the machine tracks and records those that it provides drinks to. The result is a wealth of consumer data that Pepsi can use for future campaigns.
