The Leo Caillard 'Miami Houses' Series Examine Florida's Landscape

The bright images of Leo Caillard 'Miami Houses' Series examine the beach landscape of Florida. The French artist Leo Caillard headed down to Miami Beach in order to capture the varying of the colorful beach houses found there.

Though these images are static, they are all formulated with the same composition. Caillard paid a strict attention to detail in order to create a repetition throughout the series. As Caillard states on his website, "the repetition creates an inevitable comparison between images, thus informing the viewer as to the multiplicity of differences."

The work was inspired by German photography duo the Bechers from the Dusseldorf School of Visual Art. In the 1970s, the Bechers captured typologies of industrial architecture attempting to highlight the cultural dimensions that they add to a city. In referencing the Bechers, Caillard's series shows how the Miami beach houses add to the culture of the city.
