As awesome as this fully functional, life-size LEGO kart is, I probably wouldn't want to take it out onto the track for a real spin. I can't imagine that a frame made out of LEGOs will hold up too well during a high-speed collision.
Regardless of any perceived safety issues, this fully driveable LEGO kart is an impressive feat of building block ingenuity. This LEGO kart was put together by Simon Burfield, a creative LEGO fan who also has a fully functional LEGO wheelchair on his design resume as well.
According to Burfield, the LEGO kart "is powered by 16 XL PF motors, 8 rechargeable power functions battery packs. The steering is controlled via an NXT. It uses 20 EXO-FORCE LEGO Wheels. I built this over Christmas as a way to put my yellow studded LEGO to use."
