40 volunteer parishioners at Önsta Gryta Church in Västerås, Sweden, donated their time over 18 months to assemble an estimated 30,000 tiny plastic blocks in order to create a standing Jesus statue. The figure faces forward with his arms outstretched.
Even though the statue is all white on the outside, colored Legos were donated to the church and were placed inside.
The Lego sculpture was inspired by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsens’s 19th century work, Christus. It depicts the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
