Data-Donating Refugee Campaigns

Three Sweden Lets Customers Donate Their Leftover Data to UNHCR

In a creative scheme to help out UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency) and their efforts in Syria, this mobile operator is encouraging people to donate their leftover data. Three Sweden is letting customers give the monetary equivalent of their unused 4G data to the organization in a program called #datadonate.

Charitable Three customers simply log into their account online and choose how much leftover data they can spare. Up to SEK 50 (GBP 4.22) can be donated to UNHCR. The funds generated from the initiative will be used to provide food, clean water and temporary shelter to Syrian refugees who have been displaced as part of the ongoing conflict in the area.

The increasing flow of migrants -- 135,711 have reached Europe just in the first two months of 2016 -- is the biggest refugee problem since WWII.
