These layered glass sculptures take the medium in a strange, yet compelling direction. The actual ice isn’t the focal point of the sculptures as they are not the pieces that are carved up. The inside of the layered glass sculptures is filled with hundreds of little piece of mixed media and arranged in curious ways.
The exhibit was made by Dustin Yellin and uses ice to enclose humanoid shapes made of small pieces. Rather than simply having the shapes be shaped like humans though, the sculptures feature strange things like one whose head is split and one who is missing part of his leg.
Because the sculptures are encased in layers upon layers of ice, these oddities remain suspended and look more majestic and vibrant.
