Laser Warplane Weapons

These Laser Turrets Are Being Developed For Future Warplanes

Lockheed Martin is developing high-tech laser turrets that are designed to be installed on the warplanes of the future. These turrets are noteworthy in that they are capable of being installed on aircraft flying at near-supersonic speeds.

This laser turret technology uses a special optical compensation system that uses aerodynamic technology and deformable mirrors to compensate for turbulence, which can alter the aim of laser beams, and give war pilots a tactical advantage.

"This advanced turret design will enable tactical aircraft to have the same laser weapon system advantages as ground vehicles and ships," says Lockheed Martin's VP of Missile Systems Doug Graham "This is an example of how Lockheed Martin is using a variety of innovative technologies to transform laser devices into integrated weapon systems."
