Surreal Feminine Portraits

The 'Lady Things' Photos Replace Models' Heads with Soft Coverings

'Lady Things' is a photo series, captured by Toronto-based photographer Robyn Cumming, that consists of surreal portraits of femininity. For the series, Cumming covered her models' faces and heads with soft, delicate objects. Even though the models are of different ages, they somehow become interchangeable with one another thanks to their facial coverings.

The female bodies of the models look almost like inanimate props stuck in a frozen slumber from which they could be revived. There's also something sinister about the appearance of the women in 'Lady Things,' despite the innocent and unassuming postures that they display.

The photographs are captured in front of thoughtfully chosen patterned wallpapers, frilly curtains and -- in some cases -- darkness. Their facial and head coverings display patterns similar to their outfits, creating a peculiar camouflage effect.
