Characterized Kokeshi Doll Series

Becky Kemp Hand-Painted Dolls to Look Like Legendary Creatives

Each kokeshi doll here was painted to resemble various renowned artists and designers. Created by Becky Kemp, the hand-painted dolls are based on icons like Anna Wintour, Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Piet Mondrian, Jackson Pollack and Marc Jacobs among others.

The pieces in the kokeshi doll series are true to character, whether the artist is wearing garments that reflect his or her artistic style or has a specific physical trait included. For example, the Jackson Kokeshi is wearing paint-splattered clothing where as the Vincent Kokeshi wears a sad expression and a bandage wrapped around his ear area.
