KO2 is a Community Interest Company with a Love for Dirtbiking

Based in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, KO2 Adventures offers dirtbiking with a twist. A registered CIC (Community Interest Company), this social enterprise works with young people to build discipline, self-worth and responsibility. More specifically, KO2 addresses the lack of alternative education opportunities for youth with social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders.

According to KO2's Facebook page, the programs, which use electric dirtbikes, teach "accredited life, IT, riding and maintenance skills" and promote "volunteering and collaboration with authorities." Through KO2's central online volunteering charity, ACIF, the CIC provides a portion of its funds to go toward sustainable development projects in rural Kenya.

"KO2's moto activities are backed up with full maintenance workshops, incorporating personal and career development accredited via Nokia and NCB sponsored LIFE ROUTES," the KO2 website outlines.

With corporate and non-profit partnerships, KO2 is an example of how social enterprise can disrupt status-quo systems of education all the while making certain that youth at risk of exclusion can have a place to learn life skills, and of course, have fun and exciting time while doing it. Indeed, the power of informal and experiential learning is something not revered in traditional classrooms, however, the possibilities of creating personalized educational routes can help to create an essential alternative.
