Klaus Leidorf Takes Pictures of Germany's Stripped Branches

German photographer Klaus Leidorf has taken a series of images of the country's barren trees. Captured from above in the dead of winter, the branches are stripped of leaves and foliage, enabling him to take in elongated pieces of wood only.

As the landscape featured by Leidorf is as barren as the trees are, a series of shadows pop out amid the sprawling beds of white snow. They do so in a cracked manner as the limbs of the trees let in beams of light, giving way to dark blue patterns.

Leidorf has broken with most here as many photographers choose to highlight nature while in full bloom. He has instead displayed the beauty of the exact opposite.
