Philips' New 'Kitten Scanner' Helps Educate Kids Who are Preparing for MRIs

Global health tech company Philips has announced that it is launching a series of tools to help children prepare for MRI scans, including the 'Kitten Scanner' -- a mobile role-playing tool that kids can use to scan stuffed animals to understand the MRI process better.

In addition, the new app will utilize AR technology and even let children partner up with a virtual friend, allowing the child to be the MRI operator. The main goal of the new app is to educate children about MRIs, ideally reducing their stress around their own procedures.

"By removing factors that can trigger stress, we are enhancing the patient engagement experience for pediatric patients to help improve outcomes," said Werner Satter, general manager at Philips Healthcare Environment, in a recent press release. For example, using the new app in some cases could result in children not needing to be sedated during the procedure where sedation may have otherwise been required.
Trend Themes
1. Pediatric MRI Preparation Apps - Developing apps for children to educate on MRI scans using AR technology and role-playing tools is an opportunity for companies to enhance patient engagement and reduce the need for sedation during procedures.
2. Ar-enhanced Education for Pediatric Medical Procedures - Developing AR-based apps for pediatric patients can help them become familiar with procedures and reduce stress. It is an innovative way to enhance the patient experience and improve outcomes.
3. Gamification of Medical Technology for Pediatrics - Designing medical technologies that use gamification and virtual reality to engage children can reduce their anxieties and improve the overall patient experience.
Industry Implications
1. Healthcare - Developing solutions to reduce stress for pediatric patients can enhance the patient experience, improve outcomes, and reduce the need for additional anesthesia and medication.
2. Education - Gamified education programs that use AR technology and role-playing tools can help children learn about medical procedures in a fun and interactive way, and potentially reduce anxiety related to medical appointments.
3. Augmented Reality - AR technology can be used to develop educational tools that enhance patient experience and engagement, reducing stress for children and potentially improving outcomes.
