Kirsty Whiten Creates Art that is Detailed and Deranged

Kirsty Whiten is a Scottish artist and 10-year veteran of the art world whose work has been exhibited internationally, celebrated for its distinctive aesthetic, and garnered her numerous awards and bursaries.

An Honors graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art, Kirsty Whiten is a versatile talent, specializing in conceptual art, drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. One look through this collection of my favorite works from Kirsty Whiten's oeuvre show an artist with enough talent to deftly create work that spans five separate categories and make each one seem like her primary focus.

My favorite images from the Kirsty Whiten collection include her comedic photo illustration of a woman dressed in men's boxers with a knee firmly planted in a flowerbed, and the equally as ridiculous (and unforgettable) image of a shirtless, umbrella clutching man, equipped with headgear, and assuming a thrusting position. Each image is eye-catching, edgy, and unflinchingly original. The Kirsty Whiten portfolio contains an aesthetic entirely her own.

Implications - In a day and age where consumers are inundated with advertising (leading to an intense desensitization), one of the best ways a company can garner a short, strong burst of increased brand awareness is by featuring marketing that features ridiculous surreal images to the point of immediately capturing attention. By forcing consumers to look harder at the ad, the marketing polevaults over companies that feature the safe, conventional advertising that consumers easily dismiss.
