Anti-Status Symbols

Kevin Cyr Paints Neglected and Graffiti-Covered Commercial Cars

For many, a car is a status symbol, from the luxury supercar to the graffiti-covered, neglected commercial truck. It’s this latter subset of the automotive world that artist Kevin Cyr is most interested in. His paintings depict well-worn commercial vehicles, many of which are covered with dents, graffiti or both.

Cyr finds that old delivery trucks and vans have the most character, especially when they’re covered with graffiti, and that’s why these are the subjects of his paintings. "Removing them from their everyday context gives them portrait-like importance," Cyr continues. "I paint with devoted attention to every imperfection and sign of age."
