OFIS Arhitekti's Kanin Winter Cabin Sits on a Cliff of Mount Kanin

Weary hikers passing through trails on the Slovenian-Italian border now have one extra space for respite thanks to Kanin Winter Cabin. The diminutive shelter was built by OFIS Arhitekti, a Slovenian studio, and it sits on a cliff on Mount Kanin.

Though the cabin juts out precipitously over the cliff side, it makes use of a cantilevered design that keeps it sturdy, even in the potentially extreme weather conditions that can impact the exposed rock face. The facade of Kanin Winter Cabin is also made from sturdy aluminum, keeping the shelter secure from all but the most disastrous of natural events.

On its interior, the small cabin features three lofted floors that give hikers a space to lay down and spend a cold night. It is covered in pine except for the outward facing wall, which is a window that offers a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains.
