Japanese train company JR East has commissioned former Ferrari designer Ken Okuyama to design a series of luxury rail cars.
Thanks to the privatization of rail networks in Japan, luxury trains have become more popular and commonplace. Okuyama's in particular are worth approximately $50 million dollars. This might sound excessive, until you realize that the client's every need has been attended to with a scrupulous attention to detail. One only needs to look into the immaculate interiors to see they provide floor-length windows, full baths and split-level sleeping quarters.
Set for release in the spring of 2017, these railway cars are more like Park Avenue penthouses than a mode of transportation. With a carrying capacity of 34 passengers per car, one can assume that they will be astronomically priced. They definitely bring new meaning to the phrase "travel in style," that's for sure.
