Writing has been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. Determined to pursue a career in journalism after graduating from McGill University, I came across the Trend Hunter Internship page during the last month of my undergrad. With the internship starting in May and the plan to return to my home province of Ontario upon graduating, I saw it as a sign to apply.

While I had already applied to a variety of other positions and internships in the GTA, the program at Trend Hunter really caught my eye. It was very clear that this internship wasn’t about running errands or sending faxes. I was immediately attracted by the opportunity of building a portfolio of over 850 articles covering topics such as fashion, technology, social business and marketing that would be published online. I only had to read the introduction on the application page to realize that this internship was like none other being offered in Canada.

When I found out that I had been selected from over 250 applicants as one of the interns in the summer round last year, I wasn’t quite prepared for the exciting and one-of-a-kind journey on which I was about to embark. From its strategically-designed curriculum geared specifically towards increasing skills in writing, research and social media to its entrepreneurial environment and encouraging full-time team, this internship provided me with an experience that I will never forget.

I looked forward to going into the Trend Hunter office every day of the internship. Not only could I count on learning something new and exciting, but I also knew I was walking into an office filled with engaging, intelligent and amazing individuals who made me feel confident and who motivated me to push myself to succeed.

Being rewarded with a cabin party in August for having successfully completed a project, the Trend Hunter team was able to kick back, relax, party and enjoy each other’s company. As an intern, I always had something to look forward to, be it an informative seminar with the editors or an event after work one night.

A few months after the internship finished, I was hired on to join the Trend Hunter team as a full-time member, working as an educational curator and editor for the company’s newest website, Keynotes.org. If it weren’t for the continuous feedback, encouragement and opportunities provided to me throughout the Trend Hunter internship, I can confidently say I would not be where I am today. Those willing to challenge themselves on a daily basis and step out of their comfort zones will get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
