Intimate Memory Photography

Jonny Sutton Explores Intimate Memories in his Latest Series

Jonny Sutton's latest series, 'Remains' and 'Pornography,' explore memories of sexual experiences. In fact, the photos look like what a memory might feel like: cloudy, incoherent and jumbled, although in a distinctly cinematic manner.

Many of Sutton's photos deal with the aftermath of erotic encounters. By photographing what is left behind -- a pair of underwear thoughtlessly discarded, stained sheets or a post-sex tub of ice cream and two spoons -- Sutton examines the relationship sex has with its surroundings.

Meanwhile, the photos in 'Pornography' feature a barbie doll whose body is manipulated in subtly sexual ways. The prop is obviously used to represent the female form, but the fact that Sutton chose to use a child's toy to do so is significant. Namely, it speaks to the concept of lost innocence.
