Los Angeles-based Johnston Marklee designed this unique art installation called ‘A Grid is A Grid is A Grid.’ The artistic display is contained within a cafe at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
The installation is a real life grid that is created from 2D wallpaper and a 3D roof structure. While the low-hanging mezzanine appears to consume the eatery in its entirety, there are also bold orange chairs that provide a hint of playfulness within the space. Unlike the wallpaper, the ceiling is actually made of aluminum box beams, which hang so low that the space has been reduced in size by 50 percent.
The creatively formatted grid cafe by Johnston Marklee will be in its location for viewers to immerse themselves in until early January 2016.
