Psychedelic Rock Icon Postage

The Jimi Hendrix Stamp is Coming to Mailboxes Everywhere

The U.S Postal Service has just released a Jimi Hendrix stamp to commemorate the rock-guitarist. Designed by artist Rudy Gutierrez, the stamp evokes a 60s feel -- an era that Hendrix's music was a big part of.

The stamp was introduced prior to the Jimi Hendrix memorial concert at South by Southwest. The design resembles a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve; it includes Hendrix's upper body playing his white-Fender guitar surrounded by psychedelic swirls. He is donning his trademarked get-up of a military jacket and colorful neck scarf.

This is the first installment from the The U.S Postal Service's 2014 Icon Series; Janis Joplin's stamp will be released later this year. Last year, music greats like Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and Lydia Mendoza were honored.
