The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid Debuts at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Volkswagen has generated tons of buzz at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show with its E-Bugster concept, but it's the Jetta Hybrid that should really be getting everyone riled up. The Jetta Hybird debuted alongside the E-Bugster and, unlike its fancier cousin, is actually set to go into production sometime soon.

The new Jetta puts out 170 horsepower, gets 45 miles per gallon and can achieve a speed of zero to 60 in less than 9 seconds. The gas engine is coupled with a 27KW motor that saves on electricity use thanks to regenerative breaking technology. The Jetta Hybrid may not be as sleek or sexy as the electric Bug, but it is more practical and closer to hitting the showroom and the streets.
