The Jenny Odell 'Satellite Collections' collage series is vibrant and dynamic, pieced together from a variety of miniature image snippets. The San Francisco based artist uses a multitude of Google Earth imagery in order to create her eclectic masterpieces.
Odell collects and combines numerous fragments, using a variety of singular images to create a visually intriguing portrait. The artist uses the online platform, Google Earth as her personal catalogue, collecting images of everyday, manmade objects including swimming pools, sports stadiums, structures and boats among others, forming clusters that ultimately construct her quirky collages.
These clusters also include natural and man-made landscapes including forests and gardens.. Every cluster is specifically organized by a chosen theme and filled with image repetition, allowing for viewers to compare the similarities between a multitude of different objects.
