Star Wars-Inspired Culinary Art

The Jar Jar Binks Salad

In a gallery (kitchen) far far away someone come up with the idea of making a Jar Jar Binks salad - no light sabre required. Both the pictures and the artists statement around this piece (ie how rubbish Jar Jar Binks is) really amuse me. The combination of a culinary artist and a Star Wars fan has massive potential to deliver much awesomeness and this does not disappoint.

He wanted to make a Star Wars themes dish but but was reluctant to eat any of the ‘cool’ characters. The solution to his problem was Jar Jar - who he really does not like.

Jar Jar Binks was easily the worst thing about The Phantom Menace. If I could create a scrumptious salad out of him and serve him up with a tasty crostini, perhaps I might have my revenge. Jicama proved to be just the right medium for my sculpture—it’s a tuberous root vegetable that is perfect for food carvings. It’s crisp, cuts easily and doesn’t dry out quickly. Jicama doesn’t taste like much but readily absorbs the juices and flavors of a marinade or sauce.

If you want to have a go at this yourself, then clicking on the Read More link tells you what you need to do step by step.

I tried to make this for a friend’s birthday this week and it ended up looking like something the cat had thrown up so I was too ashamed to send it over (sorry Charley). I think it is safe to say a high level of artistic skill is needed to pull this one off.
