Japan's Fastest Train Uses a Magnet Propelled Track System

When it's finished, Japan's fastest train will reach speeds of over 310 mph thanks to it's magnetic track system.

JR Central Railway Company announced the arrival of Japan's fastest train this week. The train is propelled by magnetic fields and is therefore called a maglev train. The train runs on horizontal magnetic tracks and floats above them to reduce friction and maximize speed. This technology allows the train to go twice the speed of a Japan's next fastest train.

The train will carry a maximum of 1,000 commuters in 16 cars. Its maglev design allows for a softer, smoother ride due to the relatively low impact of the magnetic tracks. Riders looking forward to this train of the future will have to hold on about 15 years though. Japan's fastest train is scheduled to debut in 2027.
