To promote a colorful collection of Japanese masking tape, Iyama Design decorated the interior of an old garage in Sendai with tape. Thousands of vibrantly colored and patterned 'mt' brand masking tape rolls were used to showcase its many applications; in the space, tape scales the walls, floor, playhouses and adds a fun pattern to bicycles. The tape is laid out side-by-side in linear strips to create a stripes that adds instant personality and style to otherwise plain interiors and objects.
The most dynamic part of the installation are the rolls that hang loosely from the high ceiling of the warehouse. The hanging tape directs the flow of traffic, having people navigate around the exposed adhesive side of the tape. The effect is dramatic, though this would become a sticky situation in a breeze.
