The development is officially named the Hida Furukawa Station Eastern Development and the building boasts functional, as well as curiosity-provoking aesthetic properties. The roof that Sou Fujimoto Architects designed, for example, is a centerpiece. The roof is large and circular, made to resemble the shape of a bow. In one particular area, the roof dips to meet the ground and welcomes individuals to hop on and walk its grass-covered surface. In this sense, the roof of the Japanese community center will also double as a park.
All in all, the Hida Furukawa Station Eastern Development includes a spa, exhibition spaces, university facilities, student accommodation, and playing fields. The building is located alongside the main railway station.
