The Janus Fabric Provides Light and Heating/Cooling On-Demand

Those who wish their clothing could cool/warm them on-demand will especially love the Janus Fabric. Designers Kim Hyemin, Kim Minki and Lee Jisu have designed a conceptual fabric that could be integrated with a heating/cooling system as well as a lighting system. The idea basically boils down to putting the heating/cooling/lighting system in between layers of fabric.

The design trio has already come up with three real-world applications for Janus Fabric. The first is an umbrella with an integrated light and a sound sensor. The sound sensor picks up on the sound of rain and activates the light in the umbrella accordingly. The second design is a wheelchair with ventilated fabric that can also be heated up in response to cold temperatures. The final design is a light without a bulb. Janus Fabric was awarded a Red Dot Best of the Best 2013 Design Award.
