The Jane Guitar Uses LED Touch Sensors to Switch Between Pickups

This guitar, developed by Swiss duo Pirmin Giger and Silvan Kung of Relish Guitars, may be called the Jane guitar but there's nothing 'Plain Jane' about this instrument. The standout feature of this guitar is the fact that players can switch between the handmade humbucker pickups using touch sensors rather than a 3-way or 5-way pickup switch.

Interestingly, this guitar is neither a single cut nor a double cut -- its body comprises three layers including a pair of veneer wood panels and an aluminum frame. The back plate isn't screwed in place but is held in place by magnets that can be opened using any old guitar pick.

That the Plain Jane's pickups can be toggled using LED-illuminated touch sensors is pretty convenient, especially when you consider that the sensors can also act as a 'kill switch' to mute the output -- without having to separately turn down the volume.

There's nothing gimmicky about this feature as it enhances player convenience and will help players express themselves better.
