The Jaguar Lightweight E-Type is Being Reintroduced After 50 Years

Jaguar will be completing the 18-car production run of the Jaguar Lightweight E-Type, which was suspended after only 12 vehicles were built -- in 1964, 50 years ago.

The Jaguar Lightweight E-Type was a stripped down version of the classic E-Type sports car. 114 kg were shaved off the regular E-Type to make for improved speed and performance. Weight was lessened by using aluminum body panels over a steel chassis.

The vehicle is clearly targeted towards the racing crowd, and is powered by a 3.8-liter, straight six XK engine with an aluminum engine block and head.

The Jaguar Lightweight E-Type is described by Jaguar as its first ever 're-creation' project. The vehicles will be precise reproductions of the original specifications of their 1960s-manufactured ancestors.
