Underpaid Art Publications

The Intern Magazine Gives Struggling Creatives a Voice

Intern Magazine was developed by Manchester-based Alex Dudson as a platform for those who are struggling to make the leap from internships to paid work.

Gaining recognition (and compensation) in creative industries is incredibly difficult. It can often seem like a revolving door of internships, where you're serving creative professionals while ignoring your own creative impulses and work. The publication showcases up and coming talent who are having a hard time getting their own start.

Seeing how rare paid jobs at esteemed magazines were, Dudson took the initiative to create his own publication, and in the process, created something that "represented and supported" people in a similar position. Dudson explains, "I always try and find as international a mix of contributors as possible as the nuances in their experiences and interpretations of the subject matter are enlightening."
