Intellipac Packaging Helps Keep Broccoli Fresh Within the Bag

Landec Corp. has introduced Intellipac packaging, a system that leverages modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) technology. This system incorporates a highly oxygen-permeable membrane, which is applied as a label onto pre-made bags, film rollstock, and lidding stock, and is primarily used in the fresh-cut produce sector.

The unique aspect of Intellipac packaging is the sealed case liner bag inside the shipping carton. This liner bag not only extends the shelf life of the produce but also maintains its crispness without the need for ice. The advanced packaging technology features a high rate of gas exchange, creating an ideal atmosphere for storing broccoli within the bag.

In a significant development in November of the previous year, Apio began shipping its product line of iceless broccoli crowns for the U.S. market. This marked an important milestone for the company, as it was the first instance of a whole produce item employing Landec’s Intellipac packaging technology.
Trend Themes
