Encouraging Youth Activism

'Three Cups of Tea' by Greg Mortenson

Greg Mortenson’s story of building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World… One Child at a Time," has recently been released in a young-adult edition. The original adult book was a New York Times bestseller.

The new book is a shorter, simpler account of the events that inspired his life’s work. It also emphasizes the role of young people as important participants in the world.

In the book, Mortenson’s 12-year-old daughter, Amira, describes experiences with her parents as well as what it is like to wait at home while her father travels: "My dad’s a peacemaker, and some people hate him or are jealous. He has been threatened to be killed," she says.

This book promises to be a wonderful addition to young readers’ bookshelves.
